Moscow, Russia’s capital city has one of the largest subways in the world. Second only to Tokyo’s train system, Moscow Metro spans almost the entirety of the city, with almost 200 miles worth of track. Although in use since 1935, the Moscow Metro didn’t hit its height of expansion until the mid 60’s and has been steadily developing since. Today there are 177 separate stations and the Moscow Metro services 7-10 million people every day. Tourists in Moscow will be impressed at many of the stations built in the early days of the Metro, containing many examples of what is now referred to as “Socialist Realism” or “Stalinist Architecture”. Featuring minimalistic masonry with stucco or terra cotta finishes, buildings in this style were largely built during and shortly after Joseph Stalin’s time as Prime Minister of Russia. Aiming to throw off the extravagances of the past, architects created a new style which was not only utilitarian but also visually striking. One of the great Urban Legends of Moscow is that there is a second, secret subway underneath the commonly used Moscow Metro, designed and built during the height of the Soviet Union in case of emergency. The line supposedly connects the Kremlin with other places of national importance such as airports and the Federal Security Service building.

Sofiyivsky Park   Uman is a small but very beautiful and picturesque city. It is well known in Ukraine as one of the 7 Ukrainian wonders is situated there.  It is called “Sofiyivsky Park” and it was built by the Polish Count Stanislaw Potocki for his Greek wife Sofia.   The history of building the park is full of romance as it was built in the name of a beloved woman, as a gift from her loving man!     Potocki was a rich man and he could have anything he wanted in the world, but he couldn’t find himself a good match! His attempts to find the lady of his dreams were always ruined. But one day Potocki held a poker game and one of the men put his daughter Sofia up as a main prize. After the Count had seen Sofia he fell in love and understood that he had to win the game and win the gorgeous Greek woman as his wife.       And his wish came true. But no matter how hard he tried to show her the emotions overfilling his heart, the woman couldn’t fall in love with him. So he decided to build a piece of her home country in Ukraine, so she could enjoy the beauties of the landscape and feel as if she were in her motherland!  He asked one of the most well-known Greek architects to make a beautiful park.       In 1800 the park was built. It turned out that Potocki idea was correct and helped their feelings! Sofia was so astonished with the beauty of the park that she couldn’t resist Stanislaw’s attempts to earn her love and they started enjoying each other’s company day after day on the isle of love…       The beauty of landscapes and lakes with fountain and sculptures amaze millions of people even now. Couples come to the park to enjoy each other’s company in the place where even the air is inflated with love and romance!                 Just married couples visit the park to make a wish in the lake with golden fishes that they have a long and happy life together.

Odessa Opera Theatre   Once visited, Odessa Opera Theatre will forever remain in your heart. Every year, every month thousands of foreign tourists come here to make sure that it is really worthy place to see when coming to this famous city. Odessa successfully combines wit, unique sense of humor and spirit of adventurism with refinement, kind of aristocratism and rich cultural heritage. So Odessa National Academic Theatre of Opera and Ballet is one of the places where you can get this sense of subtlety, taste and difference, where you can touch this other side of local culture.   Odessa Opera Theatre is mostly famous because of its architecture while it’s designing and technical data are second to none theatre in Europe in this respect. At one time its building was considered one of the best in the world and still remains the most important place of interest in the city.     The Opera House has the right to be called the senior of all Odessa theaters. Odessa was granted the right to build a theater in 1804, and in 1809 its construction was completed. On February, 10 1810 the first performance took place - Russian troupe by Fortunatov staged a one-act opera by Fralih "A New Family" and a vaudeville "A Consolating Widow". But, unfortunately, in 1873 the old building burnt down, and completely it did. Any restoration was out of the question. It was a tragedy, which was relented by one circumstance only - nobody suffered in it.     Eleven years passed since laying of the first brick into the foundation of the new theatre building. Theatre opening took place on the 1st of October 1887. The building of Odessa Opera and Ballet House was fulfilled in the style of Vienna Baroque, Italian Renaissance, Classical Rococo – such is the combination which made this heaven of muses.     The theatre is luxuriously decorated by various stucco mouldings with fine gilt. The ceiling is of a special interest. Four pictures by Lefler in the form of a locket (medallion) are in its basis. Scenes from such works by Shakespeare as "Hamlet", "A Dream in the Summer Night", "The Winter Fairytale" and "As You Like It" are depicted on them. A big chandelier in the centre of the ceiling is strikingly beautiful, with its laced details. There are many different stucco mouldings in the hall and in all the circles. Modeling of circles, side lobbies and staircases, leading to boxes is especially sophisticated. All kinds of lampions, candelabrums and bronze ornamented inlays are original and inventive.  And of course, it is impossible not to notice gold leaf abundantly used in the decoration.      In 2007, after a long period of reconstruction, the theatre was opened again. The solemnity took place on September, 22. Its  reconstruction was long and difficult, 11 years the most skilled and experienced specialists in the sphere of architecture and construction, restoration and applied art from all over Ukraine were  reconstructing the national endow destroyed by time. According to data of Cabinet Council cost of reconstruction is 25 256 410 doll. Now it has 1636 seats, total area is 8123,6 square meters.      The Theatre is interesting not only because of its architecture, but also because of its rich creative history.  It plays a big role in development of musical culture in Ukraine. Outstanding composers and singers performed at its stage. Among them are Shalapin, Caruso, Sobinov etc.      In additional to regular operas and ballets different symphony concerts, including organ ones, are held here as soon as this theatre has the best sound data in the city and built-in organ.     So being able to visit Odessa do not neglect an opportunity to see this really outstanding place as by this architecture and decoration so by quality of performances given on its stage. It will charm you once and forever…

Studio executives have been releasing casting information about the remake of "Red Dawn," the 1984 action movie about a group of teenagers who form an insurgency when their town is invaded -- this time by Chinese and Russian soldiers. The original movie centered a group of high school teens who band together to fend off an invading Russian and Cuban force.   Two top executives at MGM, Harry Sloan and Mary Parent, announced that a remake of Red Dawn is in the early stages of pre-production in May 2008 at the Festival de Cannes. This was announced along with a big-budget rebuild of RoboCop, which director Darren Aronofsky among others has recently been in to discuss. The remake of Red Dawn is slated to be directed by Dan Bradley, who has previously worked as a second unit director and stunt coordinator on films such as The Bourne Ultimatum, Spiderman 3 and the Quantum of Solace. MGM has announced that Red Dawn will be remade "keeping in mind the post-9/11 world that we're in". In a further announcement the same month, Dan Bradley has been confirmed as the director with Carl Ellsworth, screenwriter of Red Eye and Disturbia writing the updated screenplay. Ellsworth will be working from a story written by Jeremy Passmore. Vincent Newman (A Man Apart) is also acting in a producer capacity. Australian Chris Hemsworth has been cast in a lead role.   Ellsworth has said: "The tone is going to be very intense, very much keeping in mind the post-9/11 world that we’re in. As ‘Red Dawn’ scared the heck out of people in 1984, we feel that the world is kind of already filled with a lot of paranoia and unease, so why not scare the hell out of people again? It was later revealed that the Chinese would be the invaders and they would be aided by the Russians later on."   Joining Hemsworth are Josh Peck and Adrianne Palicki for the film, with a possible setting of Spokane, Washington. Marquette, Michigan is being considered as a filming location. Tony Gilroy, who wrote The Bourne Trilogy and Michael Clayton will do a rewrite of script. Kurt Russell is currently in talks to star in Red Dawn. Recently Edwin Hodge, Connor Cruise, Josh Hutcherson and Isabel Lucas have been added to the cast.
