In Odessa you can find the well-known, 192 step Potemkinsky Ladder. Prince Vorontsov presented it to his wife Elizabeth and paid about 800 thousand roubles, which was considered big money in the early 1800s.  During the Soviet period, the steps were renamed in honour of revolt on a battleship "Potyomkin" in 1905. Before the revolution the ladder was called the Richelieu Steps because on a top there is a monument to the count Duke to De Rishele, the city founder. The construction of this huge ladder had begun in 1837 and was finished in 1841. The author of the project was architect F.Boffo, who had deliberately developed construction proportions. The ladder’s width on the top is 12.3 metres and at the bottom is it 21.6 metres. Initially the ladder had 200 steps, later, at a lay-out of the Seaside Street, eight steps were covered with ground, and they, according to words of the old residents, are hidden in depth of a public road.   This ladder is built at the place of another one made from a shell rock. It led to the Turkish fortress of Eni-Dunja. Then there was a wooden one containing 220 steps and it led down to the sea to bathing coast.   Some features of this construction are very interesting. So, at first sight only platforms (except the top march) from above are visible. Ladder parapets seem to be parallel. This visual effect is created because of gradual expansion of a ladder from the top to the bottom. If to look from below, platforms disappear. We see continuous cascade of steps and ladder seems to be grown. It was the core idea of its founders. They wanted to strengthen its perspective by enlarging length of the ladder, and to give it majestic view. Its steps and platforms were covered with Triest`s stone delivered with ships that came here to get bread. Side parapets were made from the local shell rock. In 1933 during reconstruction steps were replaced with pink-gray granite.   It is a magnificent place from which you can enjoy an amazing view on the picturesque Port of Odessa. The flying sea-gulls and the ships that are moored in the harbour will arouse the most positive and splendid feelings in your heart! And this is the best place for you and your match to walk, take unforgettable pictures and even look at sunset!

In a post “Women’s Lib” world, men have been conditioned into abandoning the old fashioned, traditional dating rules.  Gone are the days when gentlemen were expected to open a door for a lady or pull out her chair; now such chivalrous actions may be interpreted by women in the West as demeaning or insulting.  For men who miss how it used to be, dating a Russian or Ukrainian woman can be a refreshing change.  The dating culture here still embraces the old fashioned approach.  Even a more modern thinking, independent Russian woman will appreciate the extra care and attention you pay her by following traditional courtship rules.    If you’ve grown too accustomed to the modern dating protocol in the West, here are some wooing tips that are sure to make your special lady swoon.   Take the Lead.  While the norm today may be to share in the planning of the evening and going “dutch” when it’s time to pay, this trend has not caught on everywhere.  Take control by planning out the date yourself – and footing the bill.  By making all the reservations and planning the schedule yourself, you not only avoid the “what do you want to do?” exchange; you also relieve her of the stress and responsibility involved in planning your first date, allowing her to relax and just focus on enjoying her time with you.    Make it Special.  Don’t treat your date like any other night out.  If you want to make a great impression on your date, dress to impress.  This doesn’t mean you’ll have to don a tuxedo (unless it’s appropriate for your destination!), but you should certainly ditch the jeans and t-shirt.  Dress well, be sure your clothes are ironed and your shoes aren’t scuffed, run a comb through your hair; you may even consider topping it off with a masculine cologne, but be careful not to go overboard.   Don’t Forget the Flowers.  Flowers play a much more significant role in Russian culture than they do in Western countries, so it is very important to present them to your date.  Keep in mind, no matter the variety you get, that the bouquet should be comprised of an odd number of flowers (even numbers are reserved for funerals and sorrowful events) and you should avoid presenting yellow roses (which can signify disinterest or the end of a relationship).   Sweep Her Off Her Feet.  You know the drill:  Open doors for her, pull out her chair, offer your jacket if it’s chilly or raining.  Don’t forget to use good table manners if you go out to eat and keep her glass full.  Another custom from a bygone era:  offer your arm to her as you walk together or as you step into or out of vehicles.  These may seem like little things, but she’ll appreciate your care and you’ll impress her with your charm.    Keep in Touch.  Don’t forget to get in touch with her the next day!  After your date or trip, call or send an email to tell her you had a wonderful time and that you’re interested in seeing her again.  This little courtesy is often neglected in the modern dating world, so if you follow this tip, you’re sure to stand out.

Itaka is another summer night club located in Arcadia where you can relax and spend the evening full of impressions and positive emotions.   Along with Ibiza, this is the best nightlife experience Odessa and the rest of Ukraine can offer during its raging summer. Designed in the style of Greek ruins, this massive Odessa nightclub boasts an enormous dance floor, spectacular stage, massive pillars overlooking Black Sea, seating for over 200 people, one long bar and hundreds of mesmerized dancing patrons. Each night is kicked off with a bang through a spectacular show (usually at midnight) which is a must see for anyone in Odessa. Different nightly show is there to keep you coming back. Expect to see anything from a sensual strip tease to a multi troop acrobatic performance. Odessa's Itaka has various options for sitting, with prime seats being leveled next to the stage and the rest either on the 2nd floor or along side of the bar by the dance floor. It is suggested to make reservations for prime sitting space.   During the summer, Itaka is home to semi-weekly performances by Russian and Ukrainian superstars on tour through Odessa. Service in Itaka is marginal, yet there is considerable room for improvement as the waiters cater to dozens of tables at a time. In Itaka you can order anything from full entrees to hookahs filled with milk here. Itaka's crowd is diverse as Odessa’s population: Western tourists, Russian tourists, drop dead gorgeous girls in miniskirts, little kids and their parents and a massive number of staff workers wearing nothing but traditional togas. It is hard to think of a place where one can make friends as easily as at Odessa's Itaka, especially with the help of some exotic alcoholic beverages that the bubbly bartenders are happy to serve. The only con, if it can be called that, is the music. Itaka plays almost exclusively pop, with same songs repeating numerously every night.   Never mind the music, if you are in Odessa, do yourself a favor and come to Itaka. Chances are - you won’t leave before the sunrise   Itaka is opened for 24 hours a day. The restaurant is opened from 11 am to 9 pm, can offer you a variety of food and an English menu.
