Itaka is another summer night club located in Arcadia where you can relax and spend the evening full of impressions and positive emotions.   Along with Ibiza, this is the best nightlife experience Odessa and the rest of Ukraine can offer during its raging summer. Designed in the style of Greek ruins, this massive Odessa nightclub boasts an enormous dance floor, spectacular stage, massive pillars overlooking Black Sea, seating for over 200 people, one long bar and hundreds of mesmerized dancing patrons. Each night is kicked off with a bang through a spectacular show (usually at midnight) which is a must see for anyone in Odessa. Different nightly show is there to keep you coming back. Expect to see anything from a sensual strip tease to a multi troop acrobatic performance. Odessa's Itaka has various options for sitting, with prime seats being leveled next to the stage and the rest either on the 2nd floor or along side of the bar by the dance floor. It is suggested to make reservations for prime sitting space.   During the summer, Itaka is home to semi-weekly performances by Russian and Ukrainian superstars on tour through Odessa. Service in Itaka is marginal, yet there is considerable room for improvement as the waiters cater to dozens of tables at a time. In Itaka you can order anything from full entrees to hookahs filled with milk here. Itaka's crowd is diverse as Odessa’s population: Western tourists, Russian tourists, drop dead gorgeous girls in miniskirts, little kids and their parents and a massive number of staff workers wearing nothing but traditional togas. It is hard to think of a place where one can make friends as easily as at Odessa's Itaka, especially with the help of some exotic alcoholic beverages that the bubbly bartenders are happy to serve. The only con, if it can be called that, is the music. Itaka plays almost exclusively pop, with same songs repeating numerously every night.   Never mind the music, if you are in Odessa, do yourself a favor and come to Itaka. Chances are - you won’t leave before the sunrise   Itaka is opened for 24 hours a day. The restaurant is opened from 11 am to 9 pm, can offer you a variety of food and an English menu.

As it is known, Odessa is the biggest sea port in Ukraine so Odessa Marine station and its close-fitting places are among other sightseeing spots of this city and they are worthy to visit.   The Odessa Marine station was built at the New Mol in 1968 by the architect V. Golovin and V. Kremlyakova. Today, after considerable changes, Odessa marine port is surprising picture of modern mega polis, interlacing of glass and metal. From the left and right side international cruise liners of height comparable with the height port building can moor.   In 2001, modern multistory hotel Odessa has been built. At once after the hotel, on territory of the Odessa Marine station Museum of anchors is opened. Exhibits, collected in the different regions of the Black sea, are presented in it.   The museum of anchors under the opened sky will broaden as time passes, foremost, due to anchors, that will be taken off from the bottom of the sea where they lay nowadays.   Then, at the end of the pier the Church of St Nicholas was built. Just amazing how during 60 years Odessa, sea city, could do without a cathedral,  at least the chapel of St. Nicholas the Miracle Worker. Just since the oldest times sailors got the benediction of this holy before their voyage and brought gifts to his icon when returning from their trips. In May 1993 first stone was laid as a symbol of construction beginning. Cross-board informing about  the future location of the cathedral here was placed. On September 2, 1994 crosses and ship`s bells (they are usually put to Marine cathedrals) appeared here. On October 20, this cathedral was given icon and part of St. Nicholas` relics brought from Italian city Bari. Only few cathedrals of Ukraine have such kind of sacred thing.    Today, the temple once again called St Nicholas, or Seaside. While not even remotely resembling the one that existed before, it surprises conservative visitors with its architecture and interior decoration because it looks even more like a modern office than the church, which people have accustomed to see. Classic architecture would not simply blend with the general modernized look of Marine station. So it is the first orthodox church of the modern architecture and design in Ukraine.   Across the street "Nautical Club TTFs - port Odessa" is situated. Here you can not only admire chic yachts and regattas but also sweep on an excursion cutter, enjoying the type of coast from the side of sea and feeling the real sea-breeze. Moreover, you even can order a walk a small company on a separate yacht!   The visit of Odessa Marine station will leave in your heart and mind only the most pleasant and unforgettable impressions.

There are two things every traveler absolutely MUST do when visiting Odessa: view the sea and drop in for a meal at the KOMPOT restaurant. In fact, it is arguable that sampling the delicious menu at KOMPOT alone is worth a trip to Odessa.    KOMPOT not only pleases with its tasty traditional Ukrainian dishes and fast, friendly service; the unusual and quirky décor and theme of the restaurant is also sure to entertain all your senses. The menu is designed like the former Soviet Union’s newspaper, listing and describing the variety of dishes available to you. The spirit of Odessa’s past and history is preserved in the décor and atmosphere of the restaurant, including black and white televisions playing old Soviet films and bill boxes in Soviet style “purses”. The restaurant is cozy and welcoming, with an old-fashioned cast iron street sign outside, directing you to their door.   One of the most potent delights to your senses is the fragrant aroma of KOMPOT’s freshly baked bread. Three varieties (rye, wheaten and with bran) are baked daily. These breads are available for purchase as an accompaniment with your meal or to be taken away with you for later. And don’t forget the delicate croissants offered at breakfast! There is nothing quite like enjoying your breakfast at KOMPOT with a great view of Deribasovskaya Street, looking out at the heart of the city in the morning.   Dinner offers several traditional Ukrainian dishes to try, but it is said that to visit Odessa and not try a REAL Odessa borsch is to lose half of your life. The borsch is truly memorable, prepared with bald-ribs and served with pampushki and salo, garlic and greens; this soup alone will make you want to stay the rest of your life.   You have not truly visited Odessa if you haven’t checked out KOMPOT, so be sure to stop in and delight your senses when you’re in town!

It happened so that each big European city has its own holiday, with its own characters and traditions, and everyone tries to have as much fun this day as one can. Brussels, Amsterdam, Rome, Venice, Rio de Janeiro see a great number of tourists coming, and they come to take a look at wonderful architecture, ancient ruins and merry carnival.   Mother Odessa! Everybody keeps proudly calling the city this way, and nationally does not matter a bit. Southern Palmyra is equally friendly and hospitable for anyone. And certainly there is everything to offer for tourists, including its own carnival.    Odessa carnival, Humorina, has its patented name and emblem. Odessa is a unique and special city, and its carnival serves as one more proof of this.     The holiday is quite several years old. It can be traced back to old times where it roots in various Fool Days or Fat Tuesdays and other facetious games. Yet this time people reserved some time once a year, on April, 1, to regress to childhood: disguise themselves in different costumes, make faces, and clown around, dance and cheer.   Here they have an eye for entertainment. Still, can you imagine a celebration without present? A huge street show, good mood, fun for everyone, souvenirs, photos, unforgettable impressions – this is what Humorina gives to all tourists who come from all over the world.   You won’t see this day in the list of significant days; still it can be truly called nation-wide since people from all over the world come to Odessa to celebrate here together the day of laughter. Everyone would be happy to make fun of people around them; anyone can be the target of a practical joke.     Possibly nature itself was the reason why such a tradition appeared. Everybody tries to blandish nature to save themselves from whims of weather. People make fun of their friends and acquaintances. So, be ready and have a sufficient supply of sense of humor. Don’t get offended by practical jokes, do the same back. And remember the most important thing: laughter makes your life longer.

Odessa Opera Theatre   Once visited, Odessa Opera Theatre will forever remain in your heart. Every year, every month thousands of foreign tourists come here to make sure that it is really worthy place to see when coming to this famous city. Odessa successfully combines wit, unique sense of humor and spirit of adventurism with refinement, kind of aristocratism and rich cultural heritage. So Odessa National Academic Theatre of Opera and Ballet is one of the places where you can get this sense of subtlety, taste and difference, where you can touch this other side of local culture.   Odessa Opera Theatre is mostly famous because of its architecture while it’s designing and technical data are second to none theatre in Europe in this respect. At one time its building was considered one of the best in the world and still remains the most important place of interest in the city.     The Opera House has the right to be called the senior of all Odessa theaters. Odessa was granted the right to build a theater in 1804, and in 1809 its construction was completed. On February, 10 1810 the first performance took place - Russian troupe by Fortunatov staged a one-act opera by Fralih "A New Family" and a vaudeville "A Consolating Widow". But, unfortunately, in 1873 the old building burnt down, and completely it did. Any restoration was out of the question. It was a tragedy, which was relented by one circumstance only - nobody suffered in it.     Eleven years passed since laying of the first brick into the foundation of the new theatre building. Theatre opening took place on the 1st of October 1887. The building of Odessa Opera and Ballet House was fulfilled in the style of Vienna Baroque, Italian Renaissance, Classical Rococo – such is the combination which made this heaven of muses.     The theatre is luxuriously decorated by various stucco mouldings with fine gilt. The ceiling is of a special interest. Four pictures by Lefler in the form of a locket (medallion) are in its basis. Scenes from such works by Shakespeare as "Hamlet", "A Dream in the Summer Night", "The Winter Fairytale" and "As You Like It" are depicted on them. A big chandelier in the centre of the ceiling is strikingly beautiful, with its laced details. There are many different stucco mouldings in the hall and in all the circles. Modeling of circles, side lobbies and staircases, leading to boxes is especially sophisticated. All kinds of lampions, candelabrums and bronze ornamented inlays are original and inventive.  And of course, it is impossible not to notice gold leaf abundantly used in the decoration.      In 2007, after a long period of reconstruction, the theatre was opened again. The solemnity took place on September, 22. Its  reconstruction was long and difficult, 11 years the most skilled and experienced specialists in the sphere of architecture and construction, restoration and applied art from all over Ukraine were  reconstructing the national endow destroyed by time. According to data of Cabinet Council cost of reconstruction is 25 256 410 doll. Now it has 1636 seats, total area is 8123,6 square meters.      The Theatre is interesting not only because of its architecture, but also because of its rich creative history.  It plays a big role in development of musical culture in Ukraine. Outstanding composers and singers performed at its stage. Among them are Shalapin, Caruso, Sobinov etc.      In additional to regular operas and ballets different symphony concerts, including organ ones, are held here as soon as this theatre has the best sound data in the city and built-in organ.     So being able to visit Odessa do not neglect an opportunity to see this really outstanding place as by this architecture and decoration so by quality of performances given on its stage. It will charm you once and forever…
