6. January 2012 by Masha 0 Comments

Some Russian brides may be offline tonight and tomorrow since Orthodox Christmas celebrations have already begun. Over 30,000 Russian churches and cathedrals will be packed with people. Public transport will be available longer hours at night and in the early morning hours to accomodate travelers.

The Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia, Kirill, is serving the Christmas Eve Mass in the cathedral of the Christ the Savior. About 5,000 believers are expected to attend, including President Dmitry Medvedev.

The ceremony is being broadcast live by Russia’s major TV channels, as well as several Russian news websites like Russia Today and RIA Novosti.

Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych will attend an Orthodox Christmas service in the Pochayiv Lavra monastery in the Ternopil region. Ukrainian churches, as well as Serbian and Georgian churches, also follow the Julian calendar.
