Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko announced that 4 cities have been selected and approved to be host cities for Euro 2012.

The decision had been delayed until today because the UEFA had doubts as to whether Ukraine could build the necessary infrastructure in time.

"I'm pleased to tell that thanks to the tremendous efforts of the Ukrainian government we can finally give the green light to a symmetrical tournament with four cities in Poland, and Kyiv, Lviv, Kharkiv and Donetsk in Ukraine," UEFA president Michel Platini told a news conference.

Ukraine will continue upgrading and preparing the airports, hotels, and transportation for the masses of people that will visit the cities for this highly anticipated event that will be a welcome boost to Ukraine's economy.

Euro 2012 will be the first major sporting event held in former communist Eastern Europe since the Moscow Olympics in 1980.
