As the Ukrainian capital continues preparations to host the final match of the Euro 2012 Football Championship, a competition to determine a slogan is underway. Over 400 phrases were submitted, out of which 15 slogans were chosen as the best.

Now the Kyiv Municipal State Administration has narrowed them down ever further and selected 5 finalists. These are being sent to UEFA who will be in charge of choosing the ultimate winner.

  • Kyiv: The Golden Gate of the Championship
  • Kyiv: The Welcome Hugs of the Football World
  • Play with Europe – Win in Kyiv
  • Kyiv 2012 – Let’s Football a Holiday
  • Kyiv 2012 – Europe Without Borders, Football Without Limits

The city has also unveiled its official logo, which includes the monument of the boat carrying the four legendary city founders – three brothers Kyi, Schek, Khoryv and their sister Lybid. All of the logos have been created as giant floral compositions around the city, complete with a flower clock to countdown the days until the start of the tournament.

“Kyiv has a huge football tradition,” said Ukraine’s deputy prime minister Borys Kolesnikov. “This city gave the world two great players, namely European footballers of the year Oleg Blokhin and Andriy Shevchenko. And I have no doubts that in two years we will stage a great European Championship, but we still have a lot to do.”
