7 World Records Set By Russian Women (Pics, Videos)

5. August 2010 by Christy 0 Comments

The ladies of Russia have set world records in a variety of areas, including space, sports, and weird or unusual feats. Here are 7 records set by Russian (and one Ukrainian) women as well as a few interesting pics and videos.

Highest Pole Vault (Female)

Considered by many to be the greatest female pole-vaulter of all time, Yelena Isinbayeva holds the current world record for the highest pole vault (female). Yelena first broke the record at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, vaulting 5.05 meters or 16 feet, 6 inches. One year later, she broke her own record by clearing 5.06 meters at the Weltklasse Golden League meeting.

Here’s a video of Yelena’s record-breaking jump.

Longest Legs in the World (Female)

With legs that measure an astounding 132 centimeters or 4 feet, 4 inches long, Svetlana Pankratova has the longest legs of any woman in the world. In September 2008, Svetlana and the then smallest man in the world, He Pingping, appeared in London to promote the 2009 edition of the Guinness World Records and pictures from the event swept across the globe.

Most Number of Women Photographed in Bikinis in One Place

On July 19, 2008, 1,923 bikini-clad Russian women descended on Sochi Beach, breaking Australia’s previous record for the most number of women photographed in bikinis in one place. Cosmopolitan-Russia magazine organized the event and arranged the bikini beauties to spell Cosmo.Ru.

Most Prolific Mother, Most Number of Twins

Records indicate that a Russian peasant woman in the 1700s, known only as the first wife of Fyodor Vasilyev, naturally gave birth to 69 children. In 27 confinements, she gave birth to 16 twins (also a world record), 7 triplets, and 4 quadruplets. All but 2 of the children are thought to have survived past infancy.

Fastest Time to Put Six Eggs in Egg Cups Using the Feet

Ukrainian woman Tatiana Dudzan holds this oddly-specific world record. She achieved the feat in 42.60 seconds on the set of Lo show dei record, in Madrid, Spain, on 16 February 2008. Watch the video here.

Fastest Mile, (Woman)

At a time of 4:12.56, Svetlana Masterkova holds the current record for the fastest mile ever run by a woman. She also set a record for the 1000 meter, but it has since been broken.

First Woman in Space

Retired Russian cosmonaut Valentina Vladimirovna Tereshkova, was the first woman, and first civilian, in space. Valentian was selected out of over 400 female applicants to pilot Volstok 6, a mission with the goal of collecting data on the female body's reaction to spaceflight. She orbited the earth 48 times and spent almost three days in space, logging more flight time than the combined times of all American astronauts who had flown before that date.

These are by no means all of the world records held by Russian women, just a few we found to be particularly interesting.
