Alexander Ovechkin Honored at Madame Tussauds

25. October 2011 by Michelle 0 Comments

Madame Tussauds Washington held a special ceremony to honor Alexander Ovechkin with his very own wax figure. The Russian ice hockey champion and captain of the Washington Capitals admitted that it was pretty weird standing next to his wax twin.

"I have an odd feeling," Ovechkin said while the audience laughed and murmured about how real the statue looked.

Ovechkin's father joined him at the ceremony and commented, "He surely looks like you, Alex." However, the athlete did notice one difference between himself and the wax wannabe. "I have a scar under my right eyebrow right now, which he doesn't," Ovechkin said.

A local club of teenage hockey players also attended the unveiling ceremony. They even paid their own special tribute to Ovechkin by blacking out a front tooth to resemble the player's missing tooth.

The museum's artists worked extensively with Ovechkin on making the model perfect. They photographed him from every angle and took over 250 different measurements. Only one other ice hockey star has been immortalized in wax, which is Wayne Gretzky.
