She has been called one of the world’s most beautiful athletes. But how many beautiful athletes can also boast of being beautiful politicians?
Alina Kabaeva can. As a former master of rhythmic gymnastics, Kabaeva retired from athletics in 2004 and became a member of the Public Chamber of Russia in 2005. In 2007, she was elected to the Russian parliament as a member of the United Russia party.
On top of it all, she has also worked as a model. Just take a look at some of her photos and you can see why.
It’s hard to believe that as a child, she was branded as “too heavy” and “too ugly” by several gymnastics coaches, who said she was not talented enough to succeed as a gymnast. It wasn’t until she reached her teen years that Kabaeva started to be taken seriously in the sport. She became known for her extreme flexibility and eventually achieved 18 World Championship medals, two Olympic medals and 25 European Championship medals.
She has come a long way from her humble roots in Uzbekistan. At age 26, Kabaeva is one Russian lady we’re sure to hear more about in the future.
