12. October 2009 by James 0 Comments

Director Renny Harlin of “Die Hard 2” fame is set to direct a film about last year’s Russian-Georgian crisis.  Tinsel town is all a twitter over the latest casting buzz that Andy Garcia, star of Hollywood hits “The Untouchables”, “Ocean’s Eleven,” and  “Hoodlum” would portray Georgian President, Mikhail Saakashvili.

In an interview with Variety, Harlin commented that it is “a great human story with tragic, serious overtones.”

The film focuses on a Russian born, American entomologist named Michael, who is shooting a documentary film about a rare species of butterflies around region where the conflict broke out. He realizes that some footage that he shot of the combat, could give new insight to the rationale behind the fighting, but he and his cameraman have to get to safety first.

No word yet on when the film will be released.
