Beautiful Belarusian Woman Victoria Azarenka Wins Australian Open

31. January 2012 by Masha 0 Comments

It was cuties from countries of the Former Soviet Union that made it to the finals of the 2012 Australian Open over the weekend. But in the end, 22-year-old Victoria Azarenka from Minsk, Belarus defeated 24-year-old Maria Sharapova from Nyagan, Russia in straight sets.

With her number one status, Azarenka achieved a number of firsts. She became the first Belarusian player to win a Grand Slam in singles and she became the first player ever to go from number three to number one by skipping number two.

She's now the 21st different player (and only the third woman) to ever hold the top spot in the WTA rankings.

"I did it! I can hardly believe it, but I have won my first Grand Slam. I want to thank all my fans for their support over the years. I couldn’t have done it without you. I am not done yet though!" Azarenka said.

The talented tennis star didn't have much time to rest as she's already competing in Israel today and then Dubai in two weeks.

Check out these fabulous photos celebrating her win!
