Burger King Opens Its First Russian Location

16. February 2010 by Gregg 0 Comments

While burger rival McDonald’s has been in the country since 1990 years already, fast-food giant Burger King had never entered the Russian market. This all changed in late January, as Russia’s first Burger King Location opened in Moscow’s Metropolis Shopping Mall.

McDonalds currently operates around 240 restaurants in Russia and 68 in Ukraine and Burger King’s sister brand KFC operates around 170 locations in Russia. Burger King’s flagship location in the Metropolis mall is the first of three announced restaurants, with many more promised on the horizon. Fast food is a booming industry in Russia and Ukraine, with both local and international brands growing quickly.

Ukrainian-based fast food company “Mister Snack” first opened in 1997 in Kiev and has grown to include 20 stores across the country. Mister Snack specializes in deli-style sandwiches and salads. Ukraine had a Burger King for a short period in 2006, the fast food company operated a restaurant in Kiev, but it closed quickly.
