Looking for a wild evening during your trip to Ukraine’s capital? Coyote Ugly has joined many other American chains in opening locations in Kyiv. The bar franchise is known for its stiff drinks and tough, funny, sexy bartenders. The new Coyote Ugly location opens its doors tonight at 9 Mechnikova Street.
Coyote Ugly started as a cowboy-themed New York City bar in 1993, the brainchild of 25-year-old entrepreneur Lil Lovell. Lil discovered she could make more in a single night bartending than she could in a week as an investment banking intern. The business model of Coyote Ugly was, and is, simple: “beautiful girls + booze = money.” Lil hired gutsy bartenders who could learn her schtick, and put them to work creating an outrageous and fun atmosphere. Bartenders at Coyote Ugly climb on the bars, sing and dance, and sometimes pour shots directly down customer’s throats.
She began offering franchise opportunities in other cities after the 2000 movie Coyote Ugly made her bar famous. She now maintains a controlling interest in all new locations so that she can keep new bars consistent with the Coyote Ugly theme.
The Kyiv location is not the first Coyote Ugly in the FSU. Visitors to Moscow, St. Petersburg and a couple of other cities can get the Coyote Ugly experience with a Russian twist. Lil recently mentioned on the official Coyote Ugly website that she will be in Kyiv in September to check out the new place.
