Flying to Ukraine? What to Do if Delayed

9. January 2013 by Masha 0 Comments

Boryspil International Airport in Kyiv is Ukraine's largest airport servicing dozens of airlines. AeroSvit has the largest route network of all Ukrainian air carriers but its recent financial difficulties has caused several delays and cancellations in the past week.

It canceled Kyiv-bound flights from Budapest on January 7th, flights from Stockholm and Tel-Aviv on January 6th and from Ho Chi Minh City on Jan. 7th, reports Bloomberg.com. A January 6th flight from New York and a January 5th flight from Stockholm were delayed. Overall, 17 international and domestic flights were cancelled and hundreds of travelers were stranded.

The carrier has since started fulfilling its financial liabilities and the regular flight schedule has been restored. But what if it happens again? What if your flight is cancelled or delayed while flying to or from Ukraine?

First, research the airline's cancellation policy beforehand so you know the facts before freaking out. Add the airline's customer service number to your cell phone contacts so you don't waste time searching for it later.

Be prepared with different flights and other airports you could use as back up options so you have something to suggest to the customer service representatives rather than waiting for them to find alternatives.

Also, instead of just waiting in line to speak with an airline representative, use your phone to call the airline as well. You may get a hold of someone faster that way. You can also use a concierge service. It may be worth spending the extra money to bypass the hassle and have them handle the re-routing for you.

If you're not in an incredible hurry to head home, you could enjoy a few more dates with beautiful Ukrainian girls by rescheduling your flight to another day. Most airlines will allow you to do so with delays of more than two hours.

Finally, don't be afraid to ask for a refund. If it's the airline's fault, like in the case of Aerosvit and not from Mother Nature, they may give you your money back if they're unable to accommodate you in other ways. Then at least you can use that money to plan another trip in the future.

Most gentlemen who travel to meet Ukrainian women experience enjoyable trips that go very smoothly but it's wise to be prepared for the worst just in case.
