HBO to Create Show About Russian Spies

16. March 2011 by Christy 0 Comments

HBO recently announced plans for Reds, a new historical drama following the exploits of Russian spies in the United States.

Taking place in the 1980s, Reds will be loosely based on the real-life experience of Martyn Burke (right) a film maker who traveled around the United States to make a documentary only to learn that a crew member was a colonel in the KGB. The crew member was eventually caught, but not before successfully establishing a base of operations in just outside New York City.

Martyn Burke is the obvious choice to develop the new show, but nothing is certain yet. Burke is currently developing a film based on assassinated Mexican presidential candidate, Luis Donaldo Colosio. The writer-director is also currently editing the documentary Journalists Under Fire, a film about the stress journalists face when covering stories of war.

According to ScreenRant, Reds will not only touch upon Burke’s experience but will also follow the lives of several spies living doubles lives in the United States, men and women pretending to be normal Americans while actually delivering sensitive information to Moscow.

No word on characters or casting, but knowing HBO there will be plenty of hot Russian women spies.
