Hot Russian Girls, Vodka, and Techno on New Reality Show?

Brighton Beach is known as Brooklyn’s Little Odessa, boasting a large Russian and Ukrainian population. It will also soon be home for a cast of Russian-American characters that will eat, drink, and party together, all while being filmed for a new reality show similar to the highly criticized Jersey Shore.

Creators of the show, Elina Miller, Alina Dizik, and Christine Mahin, are conducting casting calls now through their website, BrightonBeachShow.com, and have already received hundreds of applicants. They’re seeking crazy, partying types like Snooki and The Situation from Jersey Shore, and even suggested that it would be really funny if they got a Russian mail order bride.

Alina Dizik says their goal of the show is to deal with Russian stereotypes head-on, hoping to dispel some while promoting others. “We’re really proud of that identity,” she says. “But we would never want to portray this insular community in a way that isn’t positive. We’re used to everyone asking if we’re in the mafia and if we drink vodka and get chased by bears.”

However, co-creator Elina Miller says the show will have “plenty of vodka, techno music, and guys wearing Adidas pants, leather jackets and gold chains, and driving suped-up cars.” And of course there will be “a lot of hot, decked out Russian girls.” It sounds like they will be playing up to the Russian stereotypes… or is that just really how Russian-Americans really are?

Viewers will just have to tune in to see if Brighton Beach will raise as many objections from the Russian community as Jersey Shore did from the Italian community. Several cable networks have expressed interest in the show but no deals have been inked yet.
