Kazakhstan Auto Mechanic Builds a Rolls-Royce

21. January 2010 by Daniel 0 Comments

Ruslan Murkanov doesn’t have enough money to buy a Rolls-Royce Phantom. So he built one instead.

According to Russian media, the 24-year-old auto mechanic from Shahtinsk, Kazakhstan, knew he wanted the $300,000 car, but didn’t make nearly enough money to cover the price tag. Using his own knowledge, mechanics tools, and an old Mercedes E-Class, Murkanov set about constructing his dream car.

Having received the Mercedes through connections in Germany, Murkanov took out the parts he didn’t need, replaced them with parts to mimic those of a Rolls-Royce, and after much hard work, his Mercedes Rolls was born.

He constructed the body of the car himself using plaster covered with fiberglass. He also managed to get his hands on a set of low profile wheels and an original Rolls-Royce logo.

All told, the project cost the mechanic just under $3,000. Not bad considering the hand-built car is still a bit smaller than the real thing.

Murkanov told Russian media that he plans to use the car himself temporarily with hopes of selling it so that he can start work on constructing a black Rolls-Royce.
