Meet Miss World 2010 Contestants from the FSU (Videos!)

Irina Sharipova, Miss World Russia 2010

The 60th anniversary of the Miss World beauty pageant takes place this Saturday, October 30th and it promises to be the most prestigious international event this year in China. Sanya is often called “The Hawaii of China” for its similar tropical climate and the city has hosted Miss World events 4 times in the last 8 years. The Beauty Crown Theatre was built specifically for the 2003 Miss World Final, the first to take place in Sanya, and will once again host this year’s final.


Here you can learn a little about the beautiful contestants from the Former Soviet Union.


Irina Sharipova, Russia

“Everyday get up with the thought that you are the happiest person in the world, always do whatever you feel is right and it will be right.”

Born in Apastovo, Tatarstan, Irina stumbled upon the qualifying round of Miss Tartarstan 2010 at a shopping mall and event organizers persuaded her to enter. Having never modeled before, she was shocked that she won the crown, and even went on to win a full college scholarship as 1st runner up in the Miss Russia pageant. She studies fashion design at Kazan State Technical University and hopes to achieve a perfect balance between her career and her family in the future.


Kateryna Zakharchenko, Ukraine

"If you do not get today, get tomorrow."

Kateryna was born and raised in Odessa and became Miss Ukraine 2010 in September. She enjoys singing, traveling, and eating sushi. She wants to work in the field of International Rights and Economic Relations, which she currently studies at the International University of Humanities.


Lyudmila Yakimovich, Belarus

"If you want to change the world – start with yourself."

Lyudmila won the right to represent her country at Miss World 2010 by becoming Miss Belarus back in April. Born in Grodno, Lyudmila studies Jurisprudence and Psychology and enjoys designing clothes, cooking, and swimming. She also loves singing and participating in cultural events in her hometown.


Daria Zaiteva, Moldova

“I’m ambitious and purposeful, with plans of becoming a successful businesswoman and hotel owner.”

Daria was born in the capital city of Modova, Chisinau. She’s studying business management and international tourism with hopes of owning her own hotel someday. She enjoys classical music, modern literature, and loves traditional Moldovan food.
