Music-lovers Come Together at the Weathervanes of Lviv International Jazz Festival

In this city of festivals, the 10th annual Flugery Lvova is among the most highly anticipated. For three days each year, Lviv welcomes international music stars and new local talents to perform. The four day festival also includes media and literary projects, as well.

 

The festival kicks of with Rock Day on May 9th. Five bands compete in a battle of the bands, with the winning band getting a place in the final show. Styles range from ska to hard rock to fusion jazz.

 

The second day is blues day, featuring plyes bands from Lviv, Kyiv and Poland. The third day brings in the influences of electronica, world music and even throat singing, along with performances from locally famous acts. On the final day, musical programs start early in the morning and run till long after dark.

 

Attendees will also have the opportunity to meet poets Kateryna Kalytko and Yuri Andruhovich, and novelist Vasyl Gabor and hear the artists read from their works.

 

The festival has been held in the city since 2003 and gets a bit larger every year. Many bands that played at the first Flugery Lvova return every year. The festival is run by local art and business organization Dzyga, whose name translates as “Insight.”
