Must See Places in Kiev: Trukhanov Island, an Urban Oasis

5. October 2009 by James 0 Comments

Located on the Dnipro River, Trukhanov Island is a beautiful green space in the heart of Kiev, and is a favorite destination for both locals and visitors alike. Island visitors can enjoy wonderful beaches, cafes, bars, restaurants, a number of sport activities such as beach football (soccer), swimming, tennis, biking and during the winter months snow skiing.  Fishermen believe that this oasis is a lucky place. Many have told tales of the large number of fish they have caught from the island banks or off the bridge.

Men will attest that the island is a lucky spot to catch some another type of other wildlife. If you are looking for Hot Russian Women or Hot Ukrainian Women, Trukhanov Island will be a great place to find them. Especially during the summer months.

The first buildings on the island were erected in the early 1800’s. During World War II the German army destroyed the buildings on the island in order to have better control over Kiev. After the war the island was opened up as a recreation area. Then in 1957 city fathers opened the Park Pedestrian Bridge which is one of the most photographed spots in Kiev. Up until that time the only transportation to the island was by boat.

Trukhnov Island derives its name from Tugor-khan, who won a victory over Kiev in the 11 century and whose daughter married Prince SvyatopolkII, the island at one time was the summer home of the Prince and later home to a monastery.

From the royals in the past to the working man of today, Trukhanov Island always has been and will continue to be a place to let loose and have fun all within a short walk from the hustle and bustle of Kiev.
