Osteria Pantagruel: Strange Name, Superior Service

15. June 2011 by Michelle 0 Comments

Not far from the famous Golden Gates of Kiev, Osteria Pantagruel gets many repeat customers despite its weird name.

Osteria in Italian literally means a place where the owner hosts people and is often used to describe Italian-style eating establishments. Pantagruel is a cheery giant with a massive appetite from Gargantua and Pantagruel, a novel by Renaissance writer Francois Rabelais.

While Ukraine may not be an obvious choice for a cucina italiana, Pantagruel’s homemade pasta and risotto receive rave reviews. Chef Costantino Passalacqua prepares traditional dishes like tortellini and lasagna, along with more unusual cuisine like spicy spaghetti with baby octopus.

Since summer is such a spectacular season in Ukraine, many restaurants offer terraces for dining a la fresco. Pantagruel’s pretty patio is the perfect place to people watch, featuring a large fountain that completes the tranquil atmosphere.

Are you planning a trip to meet your favorite Kyiv girls? Schedule a dinner date at Pantagruel for a pleasurable experience!
