Psychic Octopus Predicts Upcoming Russian Presidential Race

16. July 2010 by Gregg 0 Comments

Paul, the psychic German octopus who correctly “predicted” last week’s World Cup results has allegedly weighed in on Russia’s upcoming Presidential race according to one of Russia’s biggest tabloid newspapers. The octopus “chooses” its predictions based on food trays lowered into its tank with flags or names written on them.

It’s currently unknown if Dmitry Medvedev or Vladimir Putin will run for President of Russia in 2012. Currently serving as Prime Minister, Putin had previously served 2 terms as Russian President until he stepped down under Russian law. As Russia’s law only forbids more than two SUCCESSIVE terms as President, Putin is free to run again in 2012. Dmitry Medvedev has proven to be a very popular and influential president on his own, however, and both have stated that they would discuss which of them would run closer to election time. Both candidates have been endorsed by United Russia, the dominant political party in the country.

The newspaper, Komsomolskaya Pravda, have promised to keep the results of Paul the Octopus’s findings a secret until the year of the election. Paul’s keepers have also recently announced that he is “retiring” from making psychic predictions and returning to the much simpler life of entertaining the visitors to the Sea Life Center in Oberhausen, Germany.
