Real Ukrainian Women as Stoic Statues

5. May 2010 by Michelle 0 Comments

The third annual Living Statues Championship was held this past weekend in the charming Crimean city of Evpatoria. This year's theme was the myths and legends of ancient Greece. Over 75 living sculptures participated in the event.

While most of them were beautiful Ukrainian women, some statues arrived from neighboring countries of the Former Soviet Union, and even as far as Barcelona, Spain! They were all competing for the grand prize of 5 thousand hryvnia, and several other gifts and awards for the runners up. The mayor boasts that this is the largest living statues event in all of Europe!

This creative contest was complemented by additional events such as a colorful parade procession and festival. The whole celebration was to welcome in the new tourist season. The Crimean peninsula relies on the popular beaches and resorts to bring in plenty of tourism revenue. Once spring has arrived, which was marked with the celebration of Spring and Labor Day, Ukrainians are eager to show their warm hospitality to guests from all around the world!
