Russian Billionaire Buys Hitler’s Old Car

24. November 2009 by Daniel 0 Comments

An anonymous Russian billionaire has purchased a car that once belonged to Adolf Hitler, according to Express, a German newspaper.

The newspaper reported that a middleman for the billionaire approached German vintage car dealer Michael Froelich and inquired about tracking down the 1935 blue Mercedes convertible. Froelich said he found the car in a collector’s garage in Germany and was able to indentify it through old automobile documents and photos of the vehicle.

While Nazi memorabilia is illegal in Germany, Froelich was able to take possession of the car due to the fact that it did not bear any swastikas.

The paper said the Russian billionaire flew to Germany via a private jet and purchased the car from the owner for a sum between 4 and 10 million Euros ($6 million to $15 million).

Froelich told the paper he was hesitant about helping the billionaire track down the car.

“I was really torn,” he said. “After all, this was about the car of a horrible mass murderer.”

The vehicle is said to be in perfect working condition. There is no word on what the unnamed billionaire plans to do with it.

Russian billionaires are known for their extravagance. Last month, Russian businessman Roman Abromovich made headlines for spending more than $50,000 on lunch in a New York restaurant with his Russian girlfriend.
