Russian Social Media Mogul Tosses Money From Window, Causes Riot

Every now and then, a rapper will toss money into the air at a bar or strip club to “make it rain” on other patrons. Russia’s Pavel Durov pulled a similar stunt, but it seems the CEO of a Russian social networking site prefers making a plane to making it rain.

Earlier this week, Durov, 27, folded a handful of 5,000 ruble notes into the shape of paper planes, and tossed the notes from the open window of his St. Petersburg office. Naturally, a large crowd gathered to catch the notes - each worth about $160 - and it wasn’t long before things got of out of hand.

“People turned into dogs as they were literally attacking the notes,” witnesses reported. “They broke each other’s noses, climbed the traffic lights with their prey – just like monkeys. Shame on Durov!”

The mayhem annoyed Pavel who took to his Twitter account to express his dismay.

“We had to stop soon, though, as people turned into animals,” he wrote. “Definitely, more such actions are to follow.”

All in all, Durov tossed around $2,000 from the window of his office. According to RT.com, Pavel, who is worth an estimated $260 million, initiated the stunt because he wanted to create “a festive atmosphere” in the city.
