Russian Women Athletes Awarded by Sports Journalists

At the end of each year, the Russian Federation of Sports Journalists name the nation's 10 best sportspeople and give them Silver Doe Awards. For 2011, only three of the winners were male athletes.


Take a look at these seven strong and stunning Russian women who are the top of their games.


Anna Chicherova is a high jumper who won a gold medal at the World Athletics Championship in Daegu.



Anastasia Zuyeva set a new world record in 50-meter backstroke at the World Swimming Championships in Moscow's Olimpiysky Sports Complex. She also set an Olympic 100-meter backstroke record at the 2008 Summer Games in Beijing.


Natalia Ishchenko is a synchronized swimmer who became the first 11-time world champion in the sport, having won the gold medal in the final soloists' contest at the World Cup in water sports in Shanghai. She also won gold in the team event at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing.


Yevgeniya Kanayeva won six gold medals at the World Rhythmic Gymnast Championships. She won her first gold at the 2008 Summer Olympics and has been called the best rhythmic gymnast in history.


Viktoria Komova won the silver medal in the individual all-around competition at the World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Tokyo. She's also the World Uneven Bars Champion.


Maria Savinova is a runner specializing in the 800-meter. She won gold in the 800-meter race at the World Athletics Championships in Daegu.


Yekaterina Tudegesheva is a professional snowboardist and World Cup winner who specializes in the Parallel Slalom and Giant Slalom.
