11. November 2009 by James 0 Comments

Sexy Russian pole vaulter Yelena Isinbaeva has been nominated for the IAAF prestigious Athlete of the Year Award for 2009.

If she does win the award, she will be the first person in history to receive the accolade four times. She has won the trophy in 2004, 2005 and 2008.

Earlier this year, Isinbaeva was named World Sportswoman of the Year by Laureus and presented with the esteemed Prince of Asturias Award.

Her competition for the IAAF award this year reads like a roster for an all-star Olympic team. Jamaican sprinters Sanya Richards and Usain Bolt, along with Kenenisa Bekele, Tyson Gay, Steven Hooker, Valerie Vili, Blanka Vlasic, Anita Wlodarczyk and Andreas Thorkildsen are all hoping to take home the gold one more time.

Known for her beauty and fashion model looks, Isinbaeva was the first woman to break the five-meter pole vault mark and has won five world titles and two Olympic gold medals.

On November 22, all of Russia and the rest of the planet will see if she can set another record in Monte Carlo when the IAAF awards the top prize.
