Druzhby Narodiv Park in Kyiv is a popular place to find Ukrainian women who love sports, even in the winter. Snow may still be on the ground but the sun was brightly shining this past weekend, encouraging people of all ages to attend Free Snow Games, a winter festival of fun and extreme sports.
Medieval type activities were a big attraction with guests riding horses and fighting with toy swords. There were traditional sleighs and inner tubes for sliding down snowy slopes, furry Huskies to snuggle with, and giant fitness walls to climb.
Plus, 50 professionals from different cities were taking part in a mountaineering competition, while others were ice drifting in race cars and quadricycles. Snowboarders also put on a spectacular show and some of them were even pulled behind horses for added excitement.
A Ukrainian festival isn't complete without the delicious homemade food. Guests could sample kulish, a thick traditional soup, along with fire-cooked shashlik and plenty of warming drinks, including coffees and mulled wines. Additional warmth was provided by the Kyiv Theater of Fire whose performers showed off some dangerous yet thrilling tricks.
