St. Petersburg Honors Steve Jobs with Large iPhone Monument

9. January 2013 by Dasha 0 Comments

Ukraine isn’t the only nation with quirky figures and monuments. St. Petersburg, Russia is now home to an interactive iPhone statue honoring the late Steve Jobs.

The monument is “a giant replica of a black, late model iPhone with a screen that displays a photo and video slideshow of Jobs’ life,” RIA Novosti reports. The statue also features a QR code which directs visitors to a site highlighting the life and work of the late Apple co-founder.

The monument’s design came from St. Petersburg resident Gleb Tarasov. Tarasov beat out over 200 entrants in a competition sponsored by The Progress IT Fund.

Visitors can check out the memorial in the courtyard of the St. Petersburg National Research University of Information Technologies, Mechanics, and Optics.

Though iPhones and iPads are out of reach for many in Russia and Ukraine, the products are popular among those in the city.

Believe it or not, the giant iPhone monument isn't Russia’s most unusual. Here are 10 more remarkable monuments in Russia and Ukraine.
