Tatyana Lysenko: Russia’s Hot Hammer Thrower

7. June 2012 by Dasha 0 Comments

The 2012 London Olympics are just around the corner, and Russia’s talented (and often beautiful) female athletes are working hard to qualify for the ultimate sports event. However, Tatyana Lysenko is one Russian woman that already has secured a coveted spot. Her event? Hammer throwing.

Born in Bataisk, Lysenko, 28, has set a few world records during her hammer throwing career, though other athletes have since beat them. Tatyana won the World Championships last year, as well as the Continental Cup in 2010, so this powerful athlete is definitely a contender to watch. Lysenko’s biggest threats in the Olympics are Aksana Miankova, of Belarus, Germany's Betty Heidler, who currently holds the world record, Zhang Wenxiu, of China, and Cuba’s Yipsi Moreno.

The 2012 Olympic Games will be held in London July 27 – August 12. Will you be tuning in to cheer on Lysenko and the other Russian women athletes?
