Tips for Traveling Abroad

Whether traveling abroad for pleasure or business, there are a few things you must keep in mind when embarking on an international trip. If you are planning a trip overseas to visit your Russian bride or just to take in the sights, here are four simple tips to help your journey go a little smoother.

Secure all necessary travel documents before your departure date

Each country has different entry and exit requirements. Some only require a valid passport for entry while others, like Russia, require a letter of sponsorship and a Visa. It is crucial that you have all necessary documents before you attempt to enter another country. Travelers without proper documents will be turned away and sent home at their own expense. Passports, Visas, and sponsor letters are not documents you can get in a few days, so be sure to apply well in advance.

Avoid being the victim of a crime

Travelers who flaunt large amounts of cash, flashy jewelry, or expensive belongings often attract the attention of thieves. When traveling, avoid carrying large bundles of cash and leave the expensive jewelry at home. In addition, be sure to keep a close eye on your luggage, wallet, or other personal effects. Don’t give anyone a reason to think you’d be an easy and profitable victim.

Don’t rely on one form of money

While credit cards may be the tender of choice in your home country, many countries can’t or won’t accept them. Do research before you leave and never rely on one form of payment. It’s generally best to bring a mixture of cash, traveler’s checks, and credit cards. If you will be using your cards abroad, be sure to notify your bank before you leave as they may put a hold on your accounts.

Be knowledgeable about local laws

Laws vary from country to country so be sure to familiarize yourself with the local laws before traveling abroad. Some things to consider are what items you can bring into the country and what items you cannot, departure and customs taxes, alcohol policies, etc. Never ever even think about doing illegal drugs or transporting them out of the country!

These tips, along with a little common sense will help your trip abroad go a little easier. Are you ready to put your new knowledge to use? Why not join our members-only trip to Ukraine?
