Trump SoHo New York to Maybe Open February 1 – Possibly with Ukrainian Ghost

26. January 2010 by Admin 0 Comments

On February 1, the Trump Organization plans to open their latest hotel condominum in the posh SoHo neighborhood in New York City. Mostly planned by the 28 year-old Ivanka Trump -- entrepeneurial daughter of Donald and Ivana -- the 46-story, 391-unit building has been marketed to buyers from the United Arab Emirates and boasts 141 suites, 253 studio suites, five penthouse suites and one presidential suite. Also, “SoHi” will be a 46th-floor meeting space that will use the unique New York skyline as a backdrop and selling point.

However, HotelChatter.com reports that the February 1st opening date is not happening and that the new date is March 1. General Manager David Chase stated, “We are swiftly moving forward—interior finishes are near completion, furniture is being delivered to guest rooms, chefs are perfecting the menus in the kitchen, and the hotel staff is actively preparing for opening.”

Ukrainian Worker Killed

On January 14, 2008, formwork collapsed during a concrete pour, killing one worker. Yuriy Vanchytskyy, an immigrant from the Ukraine employed by DiFama Concrete, fell from the 42nd floor and was decapitated. Investigators subsequently determined that the wooden formwork did not meet industry standards.

At the construction site, Mr. Vanchytskyy, 53, was a respected figure, one of the older and more experienced workers.

“Hard working brother; always smiling; he was happy to be working,” said Tony Morals, 41, who was cleaning up the site on Tuesday as city officials continued to investigate the accident. “Some people come to work grumpy and mad. He wasn’t one of them.

Opening?

With no hard opening date, many people that have made reservations for February at the promotional rate of $389 are getting bad news. One poster on TripAdvisor was notified that his Valentine’s Day reservation could not be honored. Reservations on the Trump SoHo Website start at $599 and are available after March 1st.
