Ukrainian Prime Minister is a Real Doll

30. November 2009 by James 0 Comments

Beautiful Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko has been called many things in her life, now she can add Robin Hood to the list.

Recently, a hand-made doll of Tymoshenko dressed like Robin Hood was sold at a charity auction for $53,000.

The “Dolls’ Parade” in the Ukraine is a charity where artists create dolls of Ukrainian celebrities and politicians as popular figures from well known folk or fairy tales. So far the charity has raised more than $250,000 for the construction of a rehabilitation center for orphans.

Other Ukrainian leaders were turned into dolls including President Yushchenko who was sporting some traditional “sharovary” pants.

The Tymoshenko doll received the highest bid at the auction. Bringing in ten times more than expected, making it the most expensive item at this year’s fundraiser.

High prices for political art are nothing new for nations in this part of the world. Earlier this year, a painting by Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin pulled in more than $1 million at charity event in St. Petersburg.

Prime Minister Tymoshenko has been nicked-named “The Gas Princess”; by the way she built her personal fortune over the last 20 years and her lavish lifestyle. So, you have to wonder if the artist had an ironic message with transforming her into Robin Hood who “stole from the rich and to give the poor”?
