He’s an expert in judo and the Russian military martial art of sambo. Known currently as the top pound-for-pound fighter in the world, he has developed an enthusiastic fan base, with some calling him the greatest mixed martial artist of all time.

He is Fedor Emelianenko. And on Nov. 7, Americans will join fans of the 33-year-old Ukrainian native worldwide as CBS broadcasts his highly anticipated bout against Minnesota’s Brett Rogers. The live broadcast will be the first time since last year that a mixed martial arts fight will be broadcast on TV, having been previously banned due to the sport’s brutality.

At six-feet tall and 231 pounds, Emelianenko is a force to be reckoned with in the fighting ring. With only one loss thus far, his last five fights have ended in the first round. He is currently the heavyweight champion of the World Alliance of Mixed Martial Arts as well as the last holder of the Pride Heavyweight Championship.

Having achieved fame and recognition in Europe and Asia, the American broadcast could propel the man nicknamed “The Last Emperor” to stardom in the U.S.
