Ukrainian President Wants Foreigners to Read His Book First

16. August 2011 by Michelle 0 Comments

President Viktor Yanukovych has finished writing his book just in time for the 20th anniversary of Ukraine's independence on August 24th. Titled Ukraine: The Land of Opportunities, the book will be published in English first, followed by German, Ukrainian, and Russian.

"I started writing it when I was still in the opposition, and finished it just now, while on holiday," President Yanukovych said. "I will tell you right away: I wanted this book to be read first and foremost outside of Ukraine. This is why I asked a number of international publishing houses to print my book."

He feels that not enough people around the world know the truth about Ukraine and worries that his country is known most for its political strife.

"At the height of the pre-election political battles ... I thought: What does the world know about Ukraine, my country, my homeland? Are they really going to judge us, Ukraine and Ukrainians, by these squabbles, scandals and political wars? Are we really living in such a country? Is it really the only thing that Ukrainians are capable of?" Yanukovych said.

He also talks about how Ukraine is one of the best places to invest in right now, while directing that comment specifically to American, European, and Canadian business people.
