Yulia Tymoshenko

Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko is ranked at No. 47 in the rating of the world's 100 most powerful women according to Forbes Magazine.

Last year, the Ukrainian premier was ranked 17th in the same rating. At No. 1, for the fourth consecutive year, is German Chancellor Angela Merkel. Tymoshenko has become the only Ukrainian representative to be included in the rating of the world's most influential women. The list includes 63 representatives of the United States. In assembling the list, Forbes looked for women who run countries, big companies or influential nonprofits. Their rankings are a combination of two scores: visibility -- by press mentions -- and the size of the organization or country these women lead.

Also, for the second consecutive year, Tymoshenko has been named Ukraine's most influential person by the magazine "Korrespondent". After long been considered a possible candidate for the President of Ukraine in 2010, Tymoshenko announced that she will stand in the presidential elections in 2010 in a statement broadcast live on national TV on June 7, 2009.
