Uploading a Picture – Checklist

HotRussianBrides.com Profile Picture TipsWhen uploading a picture, either for your profile or to send to ladies, there are certain steps you should take to make sure that the picture goes through properly. These guidelines will help you pick the best possible picture and make sure that it is viewable and appropriate.

1.     Is the picture for my public profile, or to email to a lady?
It’s very important to make this distinction. We allow a lot more leeway in what you can send to a lady that in what you can upload to the profile. A Profile picture needs to be a picture that clearly shows you, it cannot be a picture of someone who isn’t you, or of a non-human subject like an object or animal. If it’s a picture of a group of people, it needs to be apparent which one is you – so if the only pictures you have of yourself are from a family reunion, you may want to crop Uncle Jack and Cousin Frank out of it.

If you’re uploading pictures to email to a lady, you will have to make sure that you already have a picture displayed on your profile and that your picture doesn’t violate any of the content restrictions in our Terms of Use agreement.

2.     How big is my picture?
The picture must be less than 250kb, whether it’s intended for email or for the profile. Many of the newer digital cameras have their default settings set up to take pictures in print-quality so that people can take them to grocery stores and create photos to share with family, or print them out at home. The internet however, has the benefit of being able to show great detail without needing the same kind of giant photograph sizes. Please ensure that your picture is below 250kb. If it’s bigger than that, you will definitely want to shrink it down so that it does upload properly.

You can shrink a picture very easily – most graphics programs offer this ability, especially the ones that come with digital cameras. There are also many websites that can be used to reduce the size of a picture. Failing this, you can always email your picture to us at Customer Service and we will be happy to upload it for you!

3.     Is my picture the right format?
There are a lot of different picture formats out there. You can view this if you are using windows by right clicking on the file and clicking “Properties”. There are many types: Jpeg, Gif, BMP, TIFF, etc. The picture file type that we use on the site is .jpg, and we will need you to submit your pictures in this format. Like the file size issue, you will usually be able to pick the correct format for your pictures in the software that came with your camera, or if this isn’t an option – you should feel free to send us your picture and we will upload it for you.

4.     Is my picture appropriate?
This is always a tough, yet important question to ask oneself. The pictures that are sent on our system or uploaded to the profiles MUST meet our Terms of Use agreement’s requirement for acceptable content. Any pictures that don’t meet these requirements are flagged and deleted by our administrators. This includes, but isn’t limited to, pictures that include obscene, offensive or sexually explicit material, pictures that display contact information if you haven’t gone through our Qualification process, pictures that include trip plans, etc. As we mentioned above, it’s always a great idea to keep in mind where you’re intending these pictures to go – it may be appropriate to email a picture of a waterfront sunset to a lady, but it definitely isn’t appropriate to upload that same picture to your profile. At all times, your profile needs to represent an accurate portrait of yourself.

5.     Okay, I’m sure my picture is the right size, the right format, AND appropriate. What next?
The next step is to upload the picture! Depending on if you need to post it on the profile or email it, there are two separate ways to upload these:

a.   To upload a picture to your Hot Russian Brides Profile you need to log into your account, then click on MY ACCOUNT button (it is located on the bottom blue tool bar), then click on VIEW/EDIT PHOTOS (in the right hand column), then go to the very bottom of the page until you see BROWSE, click on it, select the file you want to upload and then click on the UPLOAD button.

b.   To upload a picture to Email to a lady when composing an email, you can check the "Add Attachment" box to attach a picture to an outgoing email. After clicking the send button, you will be prompted to browse for the file you intend to attach

6.     How long will it take after that?
Our administrators work pretty quickly, normally photos will be approved within a few hours or the next business day!
