Thinking of buying your special lady a gift for her birthday or International Women’s Day? Steer clear of cheap jewelry and sex toys! According to a poll conducted by Russian website Superjob.ru, these gifts are among the worst things a man can buy for his significant other.

Superjob.ru polled 1,600 Russian women and asked them to choose the worst items from a list of possible gifts. Here’s what the ladies had to say.

Fifty-eight percent of respondents named cheap jewelry as the worst offender. Sex toys also received a lot of hate, with 48% of Russian women finding sex shop items vulgar and offensive. Remember, Russian women are turned off by men who are preoccupied with sex

You’ll also want to steer clear of skydiving gift certificates, as random as that might seem. Forty-one percent of the Russian women surveyed have no interest in jumping out of a plane. Cutesy figurines and souvenirs are also a no, with 38% of respondents opposed to receiving knick knacks as a  present. Russian women also named household appliance and kitchenware (18%), lingerie (13%), and a gym membership (12%) as bad gifts.

Of course, every Russian lady is different and while some women might hate to receive lingerie or inexpensive jewelry, others might be thrilled by such gifts. The best way to select a present for a woman is to get to know her and her tastes and put real thought into choosing something you think she’ll enjoy.

“A present should appeal to the tastes of the person to whom it will be given, not the tastes of the giver,” one respondent said.

Here are a few tips for great gift giving for those who need a little guidance.
