Men's Tips to a Better Life

Recently, there was a great article, entitled How Do Russian Women Stay So Hot?, that got me to thinking: how can men stay fit in with worries about the economy, investments, your job or business, and saving the planet? With all this stress, you can forget about the most important thing, you.  You need to take care of your body, but how can you get the recommended 30 to 60 minutes of exercise a day? Here are just a few quick and easy exercises you can do and before you know it you are feeling better, your pants are fitting better and you aren’t out of breath running for the elevator.

1. Walk Around

Instead of driving, taking the bus or train could you walk to work, to lunch, or the store? How about taking the stairs?  Instead of spending your whole lunch hour eating or surfing the net, take a 30 minute walk outside. Studies prove that a good 30 minute walk clears your mind, makes you more creative, gives you more energy than coffee or an energy drink and on a sunny day gives you the recommended dose of Vitamin D. If you can’t walk at lunch take a walk in the evening. It will help you wind down and will give you a good night’s sleep. Remember, at different times of the day walking instead of riding will quickly add minutes to your exercise goal.

2. Jump on a Bike

Could you bike to work? Could you bike to lunch? Bike riding is a very popular way to help the planet while helping yourself. It’s a great cardio workout and stress reliever. For years it has been a very popular transportation and recreation activity in Europe. Now it is catching on in the United States and Canada. Bike trails and parks are blossoming all over the country. Cities like Portland, OR, Seattle, San Francisco, Davis, CA and Austin, TX have all encouraged residents to give up the car and get on the bikes with bike only lanes and safe bike only trails.  Even if it has been a while since you last rode, remember the old saying it’s just like riding a bike!

3. Play Sports

Who doesn’t to sit on the coach, have a beer and watch our favorite sports on TV? We all do but wasn’t it more fun to play? There are many city or private fun leagues in that encourage healthy fun. Whether you enjoyed playing football, volleyball, basketball, bowling, dodge ball, cricket, swimming, skating- letting your inner child out is a wonderful way to have fun, let off steam and most importantly get fit.

4. Back to the Basics

You don’t have to join a fitness club and use the fancy equipment to get in shape. Think back to when you were a kid and all that fun you had on the playground. You did not know it but you were building muscle and exercising. Basic things such as pull-ups, climbing, push-ups, jumping rope, etc. are all great exercises.

5. The Good Stuff

You mother was right. I know you hate to hear it, but it is true.  Eating more fruits vegetables, lean proteins like fish, chicken, turkey, and nuts, plus drinking water are the best things you can do for your body.  Additionally, getting a good night’s sleep are great steps to help you on your fitness goal.

Make sure before you get out there and channel your inner Rocky, get a check up and talk to your doctor to make sure you healthy enough to exercise. Remember start slowly and build up to higher levels. The main thing is to do something. Go get moving to reduce your stress, improve your mind and live a long happy life with the woman of your dreams.
