Ukraine Among the Best Places to Travel

28. December 2012 by Lorena 0 Comments

A number of travel publications have released their lists of places to travel in 2013, and Ukraine is in the top 10. Kyiv, Lviv, and the country as a whole were recommended by one publication or another. Among the things that travel magazines think you should see when you go to Ukraine:

  • National Geographic Travel singled out Southern Ukrainian Crimea as a top travel destination. They say that the area’s dramatic coastline, cliffs, and affordable prices make the place ideal for travelers. Crimea was first annexed under Catherine the Great because, in the words of one of her advisors, “Russia needs its paradise.”
  • TripAdvisor named Kyiv to their Traveler’s Choice List as the number three destination in the world. TripAdvisor says, “Filled with theaters, museums, religious sites, modern buildings and ancient ruins, the city of Kiev is the center of Ukrainian culture.”
  • Lonely Planet says that Lviv is one of the best places for a European weekend away. Lonely Planet recommends that you, “Wander through the town centre at dawn on a Sunday to hear the wafting strains of church music fill the empty streets, or head up to the best vantage point in the city, the High Castle, at sunset for spine-tingling views.”
  • Lonely Planet also recommended Chernobyl Reactor #4 as the spookiest place you can tour, and declared the Salt Tunnels of Solotvyno the world’s tenth saltiest site.
  • Ukraine as a whole made number eight on Globe Spot’s countries to visit in 2013. They said that the combination of coastal party towns, Soviet throwback cities and posh Crimean resorts makes Ukraine a unique, must-see destination.
