Ukraine's Bolshoi Canyon

1. June 2010 by Christy 0 Comments

Bolshoi (Big) Canyon is a deep canyon located in the Crimean Mountains near the town of Bakhchisaray. Each year, thousands of nature lovers and hiking enthusiasts visit the Bolshoi Canyon area to enjoy the area’s breathtaking views.

Visitors can reach Bolshoi Canyon by following a popular hiking trail that winds through the region’s dense vegetation. It takes approximately an hour to reach the canyon itself, but the hike is well worth the effort. Tourists can enjoy a pleasant picnic upon arrival or take a dip in the “Blue Pond” or “Bath of Youth” (if they don’t mind the cold water). Hikers can also find a waterfall known as “Silver Streams.” The hike to Bolshoi Canyon is relatively easy, though trails continue further up the mountains for those interested in a more serious trek.

There is a small fee to enter canyon, approximately $2 U.S., assuming you can find a ranger. There are also a number of restaurants, cafes, and small lodges along the road heading towards Bolshoi Canyon so couples can easily spend an entire day in the area.

Here are a few pictures of Bolshoi Canyon and the surrounding area.
